My adventure with Bowen therapy began in 1996 when I read an article about the therapy in the International Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine. I had never heard of Bowen therapy before let alone had any Bowen treatment. Despite my ignorance, I knew that I needed to train to be a Bowen therapist and set about finding a teacher. It took many months before I was able to find class which would accept me and, in July 1997, trained with Rick loader. This training began a real love affair with Bowen therapy. Almost immediately I transferred most of my massage clients to Bowen therapy because I could obtain such great success using this therapy rather than traditional massage. Despite my training however, I did not have formal treatment from a Bowen therapist until late in 1997 when I went back to Rick for treatment on my frozen right shoulder. This part of the story is told in John's Story.

I started treating people with Parkinson's disease using Bowen therapy and Aqua Hydration Formulas in the second half of 1998. This was very much an experiment because I had used a large number of therapies to obtain my own recovery. However, intuitively and intellectually I believed that Bowen therapy and hydration were the major therapies instrumental in my full recovery. The first gentleman I treated was suffering from drug induced Parkinson's disease and was unable to take Parkinson's disease medication because it would have interfered with his heart drugs. He was quite debilitated by his Parkinson's disease symptoms and unable to undertake his normal activities of lawn bowls, caring for his orchids or helping around the house. Within a few months of commencing treatment with Bowen therapy and Aqua Hydration Formulas, he was able to go back to his bowls club and resume caring for his orchids.

The second gentleman came to me late in 1998 suffering from idiopathic Parkinson's disease. He was a house painter who had been forced to give up work and cease training his football club. We commenced treatment using Bowen therapy and Aqua Hydration Formulas and, four months later, he resumed work and returned to his football club. This gentleman continued to improve for nearly 18 months when he went on an extended holiday interstate. He has not returned to my clinic since early 2000.
