In analyzing my recovery from Parkinson’s disease, I am convinced that homeopathy was the foundation for my restoration. While this may not be the path that others choose, homeopathic remedies work at so many levels of our being that they are able to assist with the physical, emotional and spiritual aspects of a degenerative disorder such as Parkinson’s disease.
Over the two and a half years I worked with Marg Wood, I took many different homeopathics which are recorded in my diary notes. Many remedies brought benefit, some did nothing and a few aggravated my symptoms. This was an adventure for both Marg and myself. We had no research or historical guidance. Marg could prescribe only on my current symptoms, while I needed to be aware of any and all changes occurring at all levels in order to allow Marg to make an accurate assessment of my progress and needs.
Marg prescribed both constitutional and symptomatic remedies, often using one major remedy with intercurrents. I kept notes on my condition, often daily, sometimes weekly if there was little change occurring. Progress was fluctuating and, often, frustrating. I would respond well to a new remedy and feel my pain reduce, mobility increase and energy grow. Then, after a few weeks, I would start to go backwards again.
In retrospect, I can see that I was actually making progress all the time; it was like climbing through foothills to reach a mountain. Each "hill" was a little higher than the last and each "valley" was a little less deep. At the time, however, it was so hard to see this pattern.
Marg’s encouragement, calmness and apparent confidence were vital to my continued determination to recover. She told me later that there were times when she wondered if she could do anything except palliate my symptoms. But she never let me guess that she was anything but confident of my recovery (see "Placebo - something for nothing"). I cried on the day I told her that "I no longer have Parkinson’s disease".
For anyone undertaking this journey, calmness, confidence and love from their practitioner is absolutely vital. |
