It is with deep regret that we have to advise that the Neuro Recovery Foundation has ceased to exist. After many years of hard work, wonderful activities, and pursuit of research funding, the organisation has become unviable from lack of financial and physical support.

The minutes of our final meeting explains our actions:

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING: 3rd April 2011

Minutes of Meeting held at 12 Bennett Close, Lancefield.

In attendance: Executive officers John Coleman (Chair), Karen Brown, Nichol Hebert.

Meeting commenced at 11.40 am.

Minutes, treasurer’s report and discussion papers from previous meeting and AGM were received and approved on the voices.

The Financial Statement for 2010/2011 was accepted on the voices.

It was agreed that the only matter for discussion was distribution of current funds in the most effective way.

DISCUSSION: It was agreed that, as we have received no response to our appeals to government and non-government agencies for funding for our proposed Aquas research project, that the current funds of $13,442.70 should be distributed to organisations which could most effectively help people within our determined demographic.

DISTRIBUTION

Wild Medicine was our biggest contributor and, as the funding ($2000) was specifically for the Aqua project, we offered to refund this. This was accepted by Wild Medicine who will look for other ways to pursue research.

Three other organisations were agreed to be appropriate to receive Neuro Recovery Foundation funding as they assist those within our demographic. The organisations are:

  • Lyme Disease Association of Australia (LDA) – this is the first and only LDA in Australia and works to promote research into Lyme Disease, plus disseminate information about processes and treatment. Lyme Disease is poorly understood and hardly recognised in Australia (or elsewhere), and effects the nervous system of many sufferers. The LDA receives no government or corporate funding and is run by volunteers.
  • Well Women – a voluntary group supporting women diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis who choose to pursue ways of becoming well. Well Women receives no government or corporate funding.
  • Tom Bowen Legacy Trust Fund – raises funds to provide wheelchairs and similar equipment to families who have children with neuro disorders. The organisation is entirely run by volunteers.

Therefore, funding distribution agreed is as follows:

Wild Medicine; $2000.00
Lyme Disease Association; $5000.00
Well Women; $3000.00
Tom Bowen Legacy Trust Fund; $3000.00
Payment of Government Report costs, de-registration costs, other administrative costs; $442.70
Total $13,442.70

The meeting agreed that, when all funds are distributed to the organisations chosen, and all other costs met, Neuro Recovery Foundation will be wound up, the bank account cancelled, and the Justice Department notified of this. John Coleman will place a notice and these minutes on his website (Neuro Recovery Foundation page) which will be sufficient to advise members of the process agreed.

John will mail funding cheques with a covering letter, prepare government statements, and advise the committee when all actions are completed.

The meeting closed at 12.45 pm.
